Abstract
In discussing informed consent for organ transplantation, Halpern et al. (June 26 issue)1 blend two important but independent concerns — the quality of organs from various groups of deceased donors and the risk of transmission of infection. The merging of these topics raises the level of concern for recipients and others, but it does little to clarify the process of informed consent or to enhance patient safety. Keywords
