Abstract
Immature male rats (60 to 65-g) were adrenalectomized and fed a purified diet. For 100% survival over 20 days the following hormone daily dosages were required: 0.15 mg cortisone acetate, 0.015 mg of chlorohydrocortisone acetate and 0.020 mg of desoxycorti-costerone acetate. Body weight gain was most pronounced with the halogenated steroid. Single injections extended survival of adrenalectomized rats more effectively with chloro-F-acetate than with E-acetate despite use of a 1:10 dosage ratio. Absence of dietary protein reduced hormone effectiveness. Keywords
