Abstract
There are two families of interferometric devices incorporating two gratings and an extended source that are based on the Lau effect. In this paper the ray-optics techniques made possible by using the Wigner distribution function are used to provide a simple description of these two families. Some new features of these devices are identified and experimental results are reported. Keywords
