The virulence-enhancing factor of mucins. 7. The remaining components of the ‘third factor’ involved in virulence enhancement

Abstract
The remaining components of the 3d factor involved in virulence enhancement are a chondroitin sulfuric acid (polysaccharide D) and the neutral blood-group mucoid (polysaccharide C) of Morgan and King (ibid 37:640. 1943) and Bendich et al. (Jour. Exptl. Med. 83: 485. 1946); the activity of the latter is not connected specifically with ether blood-group A or H activity. The work in this series was summarized and a virulence-enhancing "mucin" was reconstituted from the various factors involved.
