Abstract
Normal [human] donors were monitored before, during, and after 10 weekly donations of platelet concentrates prepared using the Hemonetics Model 30 blood processor. About a 20% decrease of lymphocytes occurred, with B cells being significantly decreased in 1/2 of these patients. While coincident Ig deficiencies did not develop in this short-term study, these may occur with a platelet donation prolongation, as was noted in previous studies. Additional studies are indicated to further delineate the lymphocyte depletion in normal platelet donors. This publication has 13 references indexed in Scilit:
