Abstract
An objective instrument for assessing moral reasoning, the Ethical Reasoning Inventory (ERI), was derived from Kohlberg's Scoring Manual and compared with two other objective measures. Kohlberg's interview was administered to a group of college freshmen and sophomores along with the objective instruments. The ERI showed a higher correlation with the Kohlberg interview and demonstrated a higher internal consistency than either of the other two objective measures. Data obtained from a second sample showed the ERI to have a test-retest reliability which compared favorably with published data on the other objective instruments and showed an expected negative correlation with the California F-scale.Keywords
