Abstract
A study of the soil micro-arthropods of a virgin forest and an adjoining tea plantation in Kerala has revealed that site characters changed with conversion of the forest into a tea plantation. In the course of deforestation. there was a drastic change in the micro-arthropod fauna. Qualitative and quantitative differences in the populations of Symphyla, Collembola, Protura and mites are shown and results analyzed in relation to deforestation and cultivation. Keywords
