Abstract
It was observed that the younger the male rat, the higher was the uptake of T3 [I131-1-triiodothyronine] by the cerebrum, cerebral grey, crebral white, cerebellum, diencephalon and skeletal muscle. This was associated with comparable changes in the plasma, in that the level of T3 in the plasma also decreased as the animals became older. The uptake of T3 by the white matter of young rats was not only higher than in adult animals, but in addition, the white matter in the young rat had a higher uptake of T3 than the grey matter. This was never seen in the normal adult and is thought to be related to the myelin-synthesizing activity of the oligodendroglia during this period of development. This publication has 22 references indexed in Scilit:
