Abstract
A range of chemical solutions were investigated for their ability to flush black field crickets out of soil cracks onto pasture. The pyrethroids cypermethrin and decamethrin at 0.001% active ingredient were the most effective. Cypermethrin was used to develop a sampling technique to estimate cricket populations over the 1981/82 season (December to May). This flushing technique used counts of crickets flushed from soil cracks and pasture in combination with an assessment of crack density. The considerable advantages of this technique are discussed with respect to its use in the control of crickets. Keywords
