Abstract
By following the lineage of the primordial germ cell and the mesoderm cells during the ontogeny of the gall midge,Heteropeza pygmaea, it has been determined that the nurse chamber of the polytrophic ovarioles of this insect is derived from the descendants of these cells. Such a dual origin for the nurse chamber of an insect ovary is the first of its kind to be reported. Keywords
