Implantation of Yttrium 90 in the Sella Turcica in Sixteen Cases of Acromegaly

Abstract
In 16 patients with acromegaly, implantation of Y90 in the sella turcica resulted in a marked, though variable, improvement in both the clinical and the metabolic status. Only in one case was this treatment followed by adrenal insufficiency requiring substitutive therapy. On the other hand, in some cases a pre-existing endocrine deficiency was improved after the operation. Implantation of the pituitary with Y90 proved to be a satisfactory procedure for the treatment of acromegaly.
