Abstract
Alpha-naphthyl butyrate was used as the substrate to study both the distribution and amount of non-specific esterase in ovaries from estrous and diestrous rats. In frozen sections the enzymatic activity was most intense in the cells of the corpora lutea and in the granulosa layer of the ovarian follicle. Less activity was found in the interstitial tissue and thecal layers of the follicle. Stroma and developing ova were unreactive. Quantitative studies showed no difference in total amount of esterase contained in ovaries from estrous rats as compared to ovaries from diestrous rats. Keywords
