Characterization of mycoplasmas isolated from cats with conjunctivitis

Abstract
Extract Mycoplasmas have been found widely distributed in both man and animals, as well as in soil and sewage ( Hayflick, 1969 Clyde, W. A. Jr. 1964. Mycoplasma species identification based upon growth inhibition by specific antisera. J. Immunol., 92: 958–965. [PubMed], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar] ). In, recent years, mycoplasmas have also been isolated and described from cats ( Cole et al., 1967 Cole, B. C. , Golightly, L. and Ward, J. R. 1967. Characterization of mycoplasma strains from cats. J. Bact., 94: 1451–1458. [Google Scholar] ; Heyward et al., 1969 Hayflick, L. , ed. 1969. Mycoplasmatales and the L-phase of bacteria, Amsterdam: North-Holland Publishing Co.. [Google Scholar] ). These cat strains were represented by M. felis, M. gateae, M. feliminutum and M. laidlawii.
