Abstract
In a theory of thermal expansion above the Debye temperature, the increases of specific heat and Grüneisen's γ with temperature are taken into account. The increase of expansion coefficient with temperature observed in several simple substances is shown to be about that expected for a perfect crystal. It is not evidence for the thermal generation of defects in the crystal. Keywords
