Abstract
Positron-atom inelastic processes are formulated in terms of the random phase approximation (RPA). The theory is applied to the excitation of both the 21S and 21P levels of He. The experimental values of the literature, attributed to excitation to the 21S level, are shown to be in excellent agreement with theoretical values for transition to the 21P state. Keywords
