Abstract
Crude pregnant mare serum treated by passing through a Berkefeld filter or by filtration and the addition of merthiolate showed a loss of approx. 25% after a 6-year storage period. The use of phenol as an antibiotic resulted in a loss of 50% over this period. 2 of 4 purified extracts stored as liquids and testing more than 3000 I.U./mg. total solids, showed no loss during the first 5 months of storage at 38[degree]-40[degree]F. 2 other liquid extracts showed losses of 30 and 50%, respectively, during the first 6 months of storage. 2 of 6 extracts stored as powders showed no appreciable loss during a period of 1 yr. There was a loss in activity of approx. 30% in the other 4 powders, with most of the loss occurring during the first 6 months. Keywords
