Abstract
Guinea pigs were vaccinated with mycobacteria exhaustively extracted with neutral organic solvents. The degree of immunity produced by 50 gamma of defatted vaccine in adjuvant was comparable to that produced by BCG. Extraction of the defatted residue with alkaline-ethanol removed most of the acid-fast staining property of the residue without affecting its immunogenicity. It was also shown that 50 gamma of defatted vaccine were the optimal amount for vaccination of guinea pigs. Keywords
