Locality and Causality in Hidden Variables Models of Quantum Theory

  • 6 September 1996
Abstract
We elaborate on the conjecture that quantum states that are intuitively local, i.e., non-entangled, are characterized by the admittance of a local causal hidden variables model. Several classes of quantum states are analyzed with respect to conformity to this conjecture. A result of Fine on the equivalence of stochastic and deterministic hidden variables is extended to causal models. Finally, Werner's (and similar) hidden variables models are extended to a certain class of generalized observables, and the implications of this result are discussed.
