Abstract
The study was designed to test an instrument to measure classroom apprehension. Results showed that the 20‐item Classroom Apprehension Participation Scale (CAPS) provided a highly reliable measure of class apprehension. The scale also provides additional information about behaviors of potential difficulty as well as several evaluative attitudes impacting upon participation apprehension. Since the CAPS was consistently as accurate as the PRCA in predicting the incidence of apprehension in the classroom, it was concluded that the instrument may be used in identifying apprehension because its items provided information about the nature of class apprehension not provided by the PRCA.
