Abstract
Figures for the basal metabolism of 101 "normal" Oklahoma women (17-36 yrs. old) average 13.2% below the DuBois and 10.1% below the Harris-Benedict and the Dreyer predictions. Averages for the entire group were 1245 calories per 24 hrs., 32.6 cal. per sq. m. per hr., 22.5 cal. per kgm. of body wt., and 7.6 cal. per cm. of height per 24 hrs. Junior and senior college women with training in nutrition showed slightly but consistently higher averages than other women of like ages and sizes, thus emphasizing the probable error from general conclusions based on observations of select groups. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
