Abstract
Adrenocortical function was assayed in 10 patients with portal cirrhosis by measurements of the 24 hour 17-ketosteroid excretion, eosinophil response to epinephrine and the hyaluronidase-fluorescein skin test. On the basis of these tests, 8 of these patients with advanced portal cirrhosis showed inadequate adrenocortical function. On the other hand, 2 patients with past evidence of hepatic impairment but with relatively normal liver function at the time adrenocortical function was measured showed little or no evidence of functional impairment of the adrenal cortex. Keywords
