Abstract
The development of the ascigerous state of Histoplasma capsulatum was stimulated in 2 strains by growing 29 isolates of that fungus on plates of sterilized soil, along with either horse hair or chicken feathers. Study of monoascospore cultures revealed that the organism is homothallic. The ascocarps are characteristic of the genus Gymnoascus, and the perfect state is named G. demonbreunii. Keywords
