Thyroid-Suppression Test in the Prognosis of Hyperthyroidism Treated by Antithyroid Drugs

Abstract
A CERTAIN proportion of patients treated for hyperthyroidism with antithyroid drugs remain well when medication is discontinued, and it is assumed that remission takes place at some time during the course of therapy. Currently, there is no way of knowing, short of stopping treatment, whether or not remission has been achieved, and it would be most useful to be able to determine when treatment has been sufficient. The high uptake of radioactive iodine by the thyroid gland in hyperthyroidism remains high during treatment and for a variable period thereafter, and in hyperthyroidism the high uptake is not suppressed as it . . .
