Abstract
Summary Human amniotic fluid contains an inhibitor of prostaglandin synthase which is active against the synthases of amnion, chorion, decidua and placenta. Levels of this inhibitor are significantly lower at term than at mid-pregnancy and during spontaneous labour. The inhibitor is a protein, most likely albumin. Such an inhibitor may be of physiological significance in the regulation of amnion prostaglandin biosynthesis during pregnancy. Keywords
