Abstract
Measurements have been made of the photoemission of electrons from tellurium into sulfur single crystals. The quantum yield as a function of photon energy has an exponential form that has not previously been reported for internal photoemission. A part of the spectrum at higher energies has a different form. The exponential part of the spectrum is interpreted on the basis of the hopping model for electron conductivity in sulfur. Capture of a photoexcited electron by a sulfur molecule in the crystal is believed to be the decisive step in the process. The form of the photoemission spectrum at higher energies may be related to the conduction band that has recently been reported for sulfur. Keywords
