Abstract
Serious labor shortages in computer‐related occupations have arisen as demand for information professionals has continued to grow rapidly in recent years. The supply is inelastic. It is subject to high turnover, and the resulting gap has important implications for employment, education, and even the design of technology itself. This phenomenon is examined in light of the emerging information society in the United States, with emphasis on ideas and tools to inform decisions that need to be made for better management of the impacts resulting from the gap. Keywords
