Abstract
A simple variational approach is used to study the expectation values <r 12 -1> and <r 12 2> for the two-electron 1s2p 1 P and 1s2p 3 P. Several ‘anomalous’ phenomena are clearly displayed by the results, which provide some grounds for criticism of traditional arguments concerning spatial correlation between parallel spins. Keywords
