Energy levels ofNa27and masses ofMg29,30observed inO18-induced transfer reactions onMg26

Abstract
Multinucleon transfer reactions were observed in the bombardment of Mg26 targets with 85 and 87 MeV O18 ion beams. Low yields of neutron deficient particles such as C11, N13, O14,15, and F17 were distinguished from stronger reaction groups using a ΔEE position sensitive ionization chamber in the focal plane of a quadrupole-dipole-dipole-dipole magnetic spectrograph. The investigation of the nuclear rearrangement reaction (O18,F17) determined a value of -5.653±0.055 MeV for the mass excess of Na27 and indicated excited states at 0.80±0.10, 1.86±0.05,and 2.25±0.05 MeV. In the Mg26(O18, O15) reaction the transition to Mgg.s.29 was observed with a cross section of 700 nb/sr. The mass excess of Mg29 was found to be -10.650±0.055 MeV. The 4n-stripping reaction (O18,O14) on Mg26 was observed with a cross section of 12 nb/sr and was tentatively assigned to the transition to Mgg.s.30. This yields a mass excess of -8.760±0.055 MeV for this new isotope.
