Abstract
Type 2 diabetes affects approximately 16 million people in the United States1 and 135 million people worldwide2; the number of people with diabetes will reach an estimated 300 million worldwide by 2025.2 Because management of diabetes and its complications such as cardiovascular disease, amputation, blindness, and renal failure imposes enormous medical and economic burdens, primary prevention has become a public health imperative. Keywords
