Abstract
To the Editor: Unlike Gleckman and Williams (Feb. 24 issue),1 we remain unconvinced by the arguments of Stamm and his colleagues (Aug. 19, 1982, issue)2 that the best diagnostic criterion of coliform urinary infection in symptomatic women is the presence of ≥ 102 bacteria per milliliter of midstream urine. In one quarter of their patients there was still no identifiable microbiologic finding to account for the symptoms. Although 25 per cent of the 187 dysuric women had "bladder coliforms" but less than 105 coliforms per milliliter in their midstream urine, many workers no longer view this figure as the sine . . .Keywords
