Abstract
Expressions for multipole polarizabilities and shielding of the hydrogen atom have been obtained by generalizing the scheme worked out by Weiner and Askar based on the hydrodynamic analogy to quantum mechanics. Our expressions, for the dipole case, reduce to those of Weiner and Askar and for the zero-frequency limit to those of Dalgarno. Our calculated resonance frequencies are in much better agreement with the exact values than those reported by the variational approach. Keywords
