Electromagnetic induction studies

Abstract
This report attempts to review recent developments involving electromagnetic induction studies of the lithosphere and asthenosphere. Activities of the last four years are emphasized, particularly those of U.S. workers. However, following the tradition of earlier reviews of this type (Filloux, 1979; Bennett and Filloux, 1975), for purposes of continuity and completeness we are not necessarily constrained by this time frame, nor by strict national boundaries. For example, certain aspects of Canadian research in this field is so inextricably related to that in the U.S., that it is appropriate to describe some of this activity with a few illustrative examples. Recognizing the interests of the readership of this journal, we have not gone into details of methods and technique, but have tended to emphasize those recent advances in the field which contribute to understanding some of the fundamental problems in contemporary studies of solid earth geophysics.
