Abstract
The following members of the above mentioned tribes are reported as falling in the groups of chromosome multiples as listed[long dash]diploids[long dash]Alopecurus geniculatus var. aristulatus, Phala-ris canariensis, P. arundinaceae; tetraploids[long dash]Dactylis glomerata, Ammophila breviligulata, Alopecurus pra-tensis, Spartina michauxiana, Phalaris arundinacea var. picta; hexaploids[long dash]Festuca rubra, F. duriuscula, Avena saliva var. mutica, Spartina alterniflora var. glabra; octoploid[long dash]Festuca ovina. Varying degrees and combinations of non-pairing, lagging and extrusion, cytomyxis, polycary and sterile pollen are found in all species except Phalaris arundinacea. This species of Phalaris is considered to be a pure, normal diploid. Lagging univalent chromosomes are found in Spartina alterniflora var. glabra. No cases of polyspory are found. Except in the case of Phalaris arundinacea, polyploidy or cytological abnormalities of the maturation divisions or both are considered as evidence of the hybrid origin of all species. This publication has 10 references indexed in Scilit:
