Abstract
The authors describe methods of preparing aqueous association colloid solns. and the mechanism by which steroid hormones can be brought into soln. The approx. solubilities of testosterone, testosterone propionate, estradiol, estrone, progesterone, desoxycorticosterone, desoxycorticosterone acetate and hexestrol in, e.g., K myristate, Na oleate, Na myristyl sulfate, Na desoxycholate, Na dehydrocholate and carbowax are reported. Solns. so obtained are clear and stable and can be heated to boiling point without any precipitation taking place. The hormones undergo no chemical changes when dissolved in association colloid solns., and they retain their biol. activity in these solns. These aqueous solns. easily penetrate into the skin and tissues and carry with them the dissolved hormones. Keywords
