Abstract
The various existing or envisioned applications for so-called telemedicine networks are described. The current and future medical environments are examined with respect to the use of such networks. The characteristics of medical images that affect their transmission and storage are discussed. Medical communication field trials using the emerging broadband networks are described. Some service scenarios and concepts are presented. Keywords
