Abstract
Everywhere I go I hear derogatory comments about skill mix; how it will have a negative effect on the care provided by all branches of nursing. I might find this easier to accept if what was being discussed was indeed skill mix. However, on many occasions, what is under discussion is grade mix, which is a very different issue. If we look more closely at these two concepts, the differences become immediately apparent. One involves collaborative care and the other doesn't.Keywords
