Abstract
Over a 21-month period 76 patients with 94 chronic leg ulcers were recruited from community- or hospital-based practice and randomized to Comfeel Ulcer Dressing (Coloplast Ltd) or Jelonet (Smith and Nephew). In the Comfeel group, 14 of the 46 ulcers (30.4%) healed, compared with three of the 48 Jelonet-treated ulcers (6.3%) in the 12-week assessment group. Comfeeldressed ulcers also showed a significantly better response. Patients expressed favourable views on the cosmetic and waterproof presentation of Comfeel Ulcer Dressings. We feel that the carboxymethylcellulose, hydrocolloid Comfeel Ulcer Dressing offers an advantage in treating chronic leg ulcers in both community- and hospital-based patients. Keywords
