Abstract
A pathogenic rickettsia recovered from A. maculatum collected in Texas, Georgia, and Mississippi was studied serologically. These reactions placed it in the Rocky Mt. spotted fever group of rickettsiae, but not identical with any other known member of this group. Rabbits and guinea pigs were used and it was observed that this rickettsiae was less virulent for them than most Dermacentor andersoni or D.variabilis strains of spotted fever. Keywords
