Analysis of Lattice Modulations in the Tweed Structure of an Fe–Pd Alloy by Image Processing of a High-Resolution Electron Micrograph

Abstract
Computer-image processing of a high-resolution electron micrograph was carried out to extract information on the lattice distortions associated with the tweed structure of an Fe–Pd alloy which is a precursor phenomenon in the fcc-fct martensitic transformation. It was proven that the distorted and undistorted regions formed alternating layers parallel to {110} planes, as predicted by the continuum elasticity theory in a previous paper. The distorted layers contained tetragonally distorted strain centers with the tetragonality of about 0.97. This result coincides well with the `embryo model' proposed previously by the present authors' group.
