Influence of Artificial and Natural Diets on Boll Weevil 1 Trap Efficiency 2

Abstract
The efficiency of boll weevil, Anthonomus grandis grandis Boheman (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), traps, as reflected in the percentage of weevils captured, was affected by the diet upon which the weevils had fed. Larger numbers were caught when the weevils had fed on squares or an artificial diet with 11% protein and 2% sucrose than when they had fed on bolls or an artificial diet with 5% protein and 4% sucrose. Overwintered weevils collected from cotton plants or trap collected were not equally responsive to grandlure-baited traps before feeding on squares. However, after feeding on squares for 4 to 5 days the two groups responded equally.
