Microwave Absorption and Molecular Structure in Liquids. XXIV. The Dielectric Relaxation of Liquid Ammonia

Abstract
Dielectric constant and loss measurements at wavelengths of 3.22 and 1.24 cm have been carried out upon liquid ammonia at temperatures from —55° to —35°C. The results have been used to calculate the approximate dielectric relaxation time values, 1.5×10—12 sec at —50° and 1.3×10—12 at —40°. The relaxation times and the liquid viscosities are much smaller than those of water, but extrapolation to the boiling points of the two liquids gives values of comparable magnitudes.
