Abstract
Inhalation of a histamine aerosol increases the dynamic resistance of human bronchioles to inspired air. In normal subjects, the increase is moderate and with larger doses facial erythema, feeling of warmth, and headache occur. In asthmatic subjects, however, the effects are intense and symptoms resemble those of asthma. Although metabolism of histamine is not altered in these subjects, the supersensi-tivity may result from deficiency of a natural antihistaminic, increased affinity for the histamine receptors, or increased activity of the autonomic nervous system. This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
