Abstract
Emission and self-absorption spectra have been recorded for a series of solid solutions containing up to 40 at.% Mg in BCC Li. As reported earlier for very dilute (less than 2 at.%) solutions of Mg in Li the emission band of Mg in the alloys is dominated by the contribution from screening states and the edge is shifted to lower energies. Addition of Mg beyond 20 at.% suppresses the 'knee' in the Li K emission edge which is presumed to arise from incomplete phonon relaxation effects. However, the 0.1 eV shift between emission and absorption edges in Li, which arises from the same effects, is preserved in these higher concentration alloys. Keywords
