Abstract
The sulphated polysaccharide carrageenin is a powerful inhibitor of the haemolytic action of guinea-pig serum complement. In vitro carrageenin appears to act at a stage prior to the fixation of C[image]1 to sensitized red blood cells. Intravenous administration of carrageenin to guinea-pigs markedly reduces the level of serum complement activity. Keywords
