Abstract
The magnetostatic energy of an ellipsoidal particle containing a reverse domain of any shape is expressed in terms of the shape factor of the ellipsoid and that of the reversed region. The shape factors for a range of conical and parabolic spikes are computed and values for the magnetostatic energies of spherical particles containing conical spike domains are obtained. It is shown that changes of magnetostatic energy could be large enough to be significant during the reversal process in materials with high uniaxial anisotropy. Keywords
