Abstract
Multiple beam Fizeau fringes in transmission and at reflection were used to de termine several optical properties of ramie fibers: the refractive indices of the fiber for monochromatic light vibrating parallel and perpendicular to the fiber axis and the birefringence of the fibers. A new method was used to determine these quantities by regarding the area enclosed by the deviation of the fringe as it crosses the fiber as representative of the path-difference integrated across the fiber. Keywords
