Abstract
A procedure has been suggested to evaluate the dissociation energies of diatoms by fitting empirical potential functions to the true Rydberg-Klein-Rees (RKR) curves using the correlation coefficient as the criterion for the selection of the best fit. It has been applied to the CN radical after the testing of the method by evaluating the dissociation-energy values of some molecules for which near-accurate values are available. Keywords
