Abstract
The relationship of Bannatyne’s WISC-R recategorized factors to reading was investigated. Factor profiles of 190 subjects, grouped by reading achievement, age (6-16 years), and IQ level, were compared. Evidence was stronger for an adequate-reader than for a disabled-reader profile. The most frequent characteristic of disabled readers was a low Sequential score. Forty percent of disabled readers and 18% of adequate readers demonstrated the Spatial > Conceptual > Sequential profile associated with dyslexia by previous researchers. A warning was given against using this profile to classify or predict.
