Abstract
Different strains of Nocardia were cultured in a medium containing 0.4% of gelatin in distilled water. Nocardia brasiliensis develops round colonies which adhere strongly to the wall and bottom of tubes, utilizes gelatin as the sole source of N and C, breaks down gelatin into amino acids and produces an alkaline reaction. On the other hand Nocardia asteroides in the same medium grows very poorly and develops a thin flaky type of growth that is easily dispersed throughout the medium. Using this schema several species formerly classified as distinct from N. asteroides presented characteristics similar to those described for this species. Keywords
