Abstract
70 strains of various Gram-positive and Gram-negative spp. bacteria were tested for in vitro sensitivity to a var. of single sulfonamides and sulfonamide combinations. The comparative bactericidal effects of sulfonamide mixtures and their individual components were analyzed. 49 of the 70 strains tested were less sensitive to mixtures than to single sulfonamides. An additive or potentiating effect of mixtures occurred in 21 strains. 19 of these were Gram-positive cocci and 2 Gram-negative bacilli. 27% of the Gram-positive cocci and 95% of the Gram-negative bacilli were less sensitive to mixtures than to single sulfonamides. Keywords
